Coaches

Brian Myers
Brian Myers Coach Myers is in his first year of coaching at the University of Texas. He grew up in Buffalo, NY gaining All American status at Orchard Park High School. He was then recruited by Towson University where he was a four year starter. As a midfielder, he scored 56 goals and 15 assists during his career. After college, he played for the MLL Denver Outlaws and Washington Bayhawks. His most recent lacrosse endeavors brought him to Stevenson University, where he helped coach the mustangs to the NCAA Final Four and 6 All American honors.






Jonathan Nickel
Jonathan Nickel Coach Nickel is in his fifth year of coaching at the University of Texas. He Grew up in Plano, TX and played at Plano Sr. High School before coming to UT. He attended Texas from 2000-2004 and served in several leadership positions including Vice President and Treasurer. As a midfielder at UT he won most improved player from 2002-2003. His presence on the field helped lead the Texas team to the LSA Championship in 2004, defeating the Texas Aggies in the final game. Currently, Coach Nickel works in Austin, and also is the Head Coach of the ATX Starz Middle School team. He is looking forward to helping the Longhorns to another LSA Championship this season. Coach Nickel currently works for a law firm in Austin.




Tim Riley
Tim Riley Coach Riley is in his third year of coaching at the University of Texas. Coach Riley is from Houston where he attended Lamar High School and played lacrosse for the legendary Coach Vollmer during his junior and senior years. He then attended Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York and started all four years for the Bombers. As longstick middie and close defenseman he earned NCAA All-American Honors his last three years, helping his team reach the NCAA semifinals in 2002 and 2003. Coach Riley will focus on the defense.


Dennis Rugg
Dennis Rugg This is Coach Rugg’s second year with the Longhorn program. Last season Coach Rugg dedicated his time to the midfielders and especially the face-off men. While Coach Rugg hopes to help face-offs improve this season, he will spend most of his time on the offensive side of the field, where the Longhorns should be very solid. Coach Rugg grew up in Marshfield, Mass. where he earned varsity letters in lacrosse all four years. Coach Rugg was a captain of the Marshfield High School lacrosse team and in his senior year was also named an Eastern Massachusetts All-Star as a midfielder and face-off specialist. He played collegiate lacrosse at Division II Merrimack College in North Andover, Mass. Coach Rugg plays and advocates a very cerebral game of lacrosse, as he served as a “coach on the field” for Merrimack’s head coach Michael Morgan. Rugg appeared in 55 games throughout his collegiate career, posting 23 points, 74 ground balls and a nearly 60% face-off percentage. Rugg earned Northeast-10 Conference First Team All-Academic honors in his junior and senior seasons at Merrimack. Coach Rugg is in his second year of a master’s degree at the University of Texas, studying geotechnical engineering.

Michael Gerbush
Michael Gerbush Coach Gerbush grew up in Glen Head, N.Y. and played for North Shore High School where he was twice selected as an All-County goalie and team MVP. After high school he spent four years as the starting goalie for Williams College where he was selected All-NESCAC three times, All-New England and team MVP twice, and All-American and team captain in his senior season. During his junior year, he also helped lead the Ephs to their first ever NESCAC championship and even the Round of 16 in the NCAA tournament. He graduated Cum Laude from Williams with a Bachelor of Arts degree in computer science and physics. Currently, he is enrolled in the doctoral program in computer sciences at UT-Austin.
