From a state semi-finals appearance in his senior year to winning the annual Adrenaline Shootout with his club team this summer, Spencer Price is used to being at the top of the lacrosse world, a trend he hopes to continue as a Longhorn this season.
"I am really looking forward to playing at Texas and hope that I can only help to improve the program and help the team win the national championship," he said.
He'll get a chance to make good on that dream in 2010. He joins a Texas lacrosse team that returns six starters from last season's Lone Star Alliance championship squad. The future only gets brighter for the Longhorns, who welcome Price and the rest of a talented incoming class when practice begins in September.
"I decided to come to Texas because of all of the great things I have heard about the school," Price said. "[Texas head coach] Noah Fink also played a huge role in my decision to come here, I really see him as a great man and a great coach."
Although Price made his mark on California lacrosse playing for the Cathedral Dons in San Diego, he is originally from Bel Air, Md., a hotbed of East Coast lacrosse action just an hour outside of Baltimore.
"Living in Maryland really influenced me to start the sport," Price said.
Despite moving to the Left Coast, Price continued to play lacrosse as the sport grew in prominence across the West. The senior attackman set his high school's record for points in a season with 70 goals and 28 assists last year while on his way to being named an All-American.
And now, Price will be making another cross-country move, but this time lacrosse is already well established on the 40 Acres. Price will join the team for the beginning of fall ball next month.
"I think that I can make a large impact on the program," Price said. "I have had tons of great coaches and have a lot of experience with the game, which should really help me adjust to the college level."
Head Coach Noah Fink also thinks Price has potential to contribute to the team.
"Spencer has all the tools to be one of the best attackmen in the country,” says Fink.
He has a great athlete with excellent stick skills. Just as important is
Spencer's ability to play at a top level. He has been in many competitive
games with pressure situations and he knows how to handle himself. He is a
smart attackmen who understands offense. We are looking forward to seeing
him take the field and mesh with our attack."
