COLLEGE STATION - LSA powers Texas and #16 Texas A&M were ready to battle Friday night in what looked to
be a great game with championship implications. The night would end with no winner however, as the game
would have to be ruled a no contest, as the field lights would not turn on.
Because the two teams, both of whom are undefeated in conference play, are in separate divisions within
the LSA, the game will not be made up. However, it won’t be long before the in-state rivals could face
off again, as the LSA Championships at SMU’s Gerald Ford Stadium in Dallas are less than two weeks away.
WACO - After the debacle the night before, and long drives to and from Austin, the Horns headed to Waco to face the ever-improving Baylor Bears, whose Friday night game against Texas Tech was ended early due to poor weather.
Texas carried the momentum it had started to build the night before right in to their Saturday contest, using stifling defense and aggressive offense to take the Bears out of their game early. The Horns would score first on an outside shot by midfielder Bryan Howe (The Woodlands H.S., Woodlands, TX), before giving up a garbage goal minutes later. Howe would return the favor though, scoring again, his second of the contest, on the next possession.
From there, the Horns would go on to completely dominate the game, giving up only 2 in the first 3 quarters, while putting up 10 in the same time. Goalie Towers Wilen (The Lovett School; Atlanta, GA) held strong in goal again, totaling 10 saves in just over 3 quarters of play between the pipes.
Freshman attack Tyler Nix (Colleyville Heritage H.S.; Colleyville, TX) led in points, with 2 goals and 2 assists total. Six players finished with multiple points, including midfielders Bryan Howe (2g, 1a), Alex Kroviak (2a), and Stephen Brandewie (1g, 1a) and attackmen Tyler Nix (2g, 2a), Matthew Tuttle (2g, 1a) and Evans Swann (2g, 1a). Billy K. Forrest (Katy H.S.; Katy, TX), Zac Wilson (St. John’s H.S.; Houston, TX) and Tyler Harris (Cy-Fair H.S.; Houston, TX) each added one on outside shots as well.
The Horns kept the momentum going as they strived to insure that every player would see the field, even moving midfielders to attack to provide more opportunities. These players used their chance to shine well, as they were able to keep the level of play up against the tired Baylor first team.
The final horn would blow with Texas ahead 12 - 6, finishing their regular season schedule undefeated in the LSA, and securing their first round bye in the LSA Championships. After the rocky streak of out-of-conference games, Texas has used its recent opportunities to prove they’re ready to make waves at both the LSA Championships, and the MCLA National Championships in the near future. Hook ‘Em!
