The Horns returned late Saturday evening from their trip to Lubbock
empty handed after a difficult loss to Texas Tech: 7-14. In the opening
of the game the Red Raiders took an early lead over Texas. Unable to
get started, the Longhorns trailed at the end of the first by 2. The
second quarter brought the Horns’ best of the day as they scored four
goals to lead 5-4 at halftime.
Two goals in the third
quarter delivered Texas its largest lead of the afternoon, 7-4.
However, as the third quarter wore down, the Longhorns
uncharacteristically began to fall apart. Three Texas Tech goals evened
the game at 7 to start the final period. A further deterioration
allowed Texas to give up seven more goals while finding none themselves
on offense. In the end, Texas walked away with its first set of
back-to-back losses this year.
However, with news that
Texas has made this year’s playoff bracket, the Horns anticipate a
possible rematch against the Red Raiders in a few weeks. In the
meantime, the Longhorns move past their disappointing weekend to
prepare for their final game of the regular season against the Texas
State Bobcats which will be played in San Marcos this Saturday at 1:00
PM.
