UT Honors a Fallen Friend
Posted April 8, 2008
Fans came out to remember Scotty and to root for the Horns.

During halftime of the March 22nd game between Texas and Rice University at St. John’s Upper School in Houston, the Longhorns had an opportunity to celebrate the life of Scotty Caven. The day’s dedication of the press box was the final step in the nearly four-year project of constructing Scottland Yard stadium for St. John’s lacrosse, field hockey, and soccer teams.

Over a hundred friends and family besides the Longhorn team came together to remember Scotty, who had plans to begin attending the University of Texas in fall of 2004 before passing away in a tragic vehicle accident. Texas senior captain Ernst Leiss , a high school teammate of Scotty’s, commented, "It was nice to go back to St. John's and play there one more time for Scott. I'm really happy the Cavens could make it out and I'm glad that St. John's made it possible." Another close friend, Zac Wilson , thought "the presence of Scotty's friends and members of both the St. John's and UT communities was a strong testament to Scott's memorable character and loving relationships with those around him."

In another means of remembrance, the UT team took pregame time to meet and throw around with players from Klein Lacrosse, a youth team from the Houston area, in an effort to foster a love for the game that Scotty exemplified. The Longhorns would again like to thank St. John’s School and the Caven family for inviting them to share in such a special rememberance.
