Colorado:
The Horns battled Colorado on Friday night. The game started off shakey
for the Longhorns, with 2 failed clears that resulted in 2 open net goals
for CU. The boys battled back though, eventually taking the lead at 5-4
going into halftime. CU came out firing in the 2nd half, taking the lead
into the 4th quarter. The Horns were down 3 with 5 minutes to go, but could
only get within 2. At 8-10, in favor of the Buffs, we were forced to double
team the ball with the goalie. After killing the clock for several minutes,
CU was able to drop the ball in the empty net for the final score. Time
expired as the horns were defeated 11-8. The guys played very well against
this highly ranked opponent. They came out of the game upbeat knowing they
could have beaten CU had they eliminated those few costly errors. The 2
failed clears ended up being the difference.
Kansas:
The horns played Kansas on Saturday afternoon.
The team came out sluggish and played poorly for most of the game. It looked as
if they were saving their energy for their next game. This one was very
sloppy and uneventful, with the final score being 9-6. Everyone saw the
field.
Missouri:
At 9 am on Sunday morning, we took on the Tigers. The first quarter was
again shakey, as we saw ourselves down 3-0. A goal from Ben Sklar at the
end of the quarter made it 3-1. Then the guys woke up. They would score 2
quick goals at the beginning of the quarter, only to allow a quick one from
Missouri off a face off. That would be the last goal Missouri would score
until the 5 minute mark left in the game. The horns controlled the tempo of
the game on both sides of the field. We fired at will at the Tiger goalie,
who was very good, and got our tally up to 8. Missouri would add the
aforementioned goal at the 5 minute mark, only to be answered immediately by
us. We then possessed the ball for the remaining 4 minutes of the game,
thwarting Missouri's attempt to double team and get the ball. Final score
9-5.
Up next:

Wednesday night. Next home game is March 25th against Baylor, 3 o'clock at
the IM fields.
