SAN MARCOS, TX -- It didn't take long for the Texas State Bobcats to get the Longhorns' attention Saturday evening.
Amidst the spirited backing of "Texas!-State!" cheers from a fan base that drowned out the traditional "Texas!-Fight!",
the Bobcats scored the first two goals of the game and surprisingly continued to lead 2-1 at the first quarter break.
The Horns (5-0) took Texas State's best shot in stride, however, and got their first three goals from attackman
Doug Boyer
to climb back into the driver's seat and lead 5-3 at halftime. After initially looking a bit leaky,
the Longhorn defense also seemed to solve the individual talent that keyed the Bobcat offensive charge.
Goalie Towers Wilen
played especially well all game, stopping fourteen shots in leading his team to a 13-7 LSA
South Division victory.
Tyler Nix
had three goals and as many assists, and
Evans Swann
and Charlie Fraser
contributed two goals apiece.
Head coach Noah Fink had mixed emotions about the early wake-up call, "We have to have a good week of practice and
carry that preparedness through warm-ups and right into the game. We didn't have that this week. Having said that,
I'm glad that we were able to regroup and come back from being down; that's the first time we've had to do that
this season." Fink was also pleased with Texas' team effort to convert 21 of 24 clear attempts and the team
discipline to visit the penalty box for under four minutes total for the second straight game.
