AUSTIN, TX -- The first half certainly wasn't pretty, but the Texas Longhorns got the job done in their Friday night
season and home opener against the Southwestern Pirates. After trading goals and managing only a 7-4 halftime lead,
Texas (1-0) put together a dominant second half surge to pull away and eventually win 16-6.
Tyler Nix had a perfect shooting performance, tallying six goals on as many shots. Matthew Tuttle and Evans Swann
each contributed two goals, and six other Longhorns scored a goal apiece. Paul McCloud and Alex Kroviak tied for a
game-high three assists. Goalie Towers Wilen recorded just five saves in over three quarters of work, mostly due to
an intense Texas defensive corps keeping the Pirates at bay despite a few transitional and man-down lapses. Head
coach Noah Fink said of the win, "A win is a win. This was our first test of the season and we passed. Now we look
towards preparing for our next, tougher test: SMU at home next week."
