The Longhorns traveled north on Saturday to start the season off with a
scrimmage against Southwestern. The day was cold and rainy, but it didn't take
long for the team to warm back up to their sticks after a long winter break.
Ball control was key and offensive execution looked top notch, despite veteran
starters
Evans Swann
and Stephen Brandewie
being out on injured reserve.
Rookie Tyler Nix
stepped up at attack and showed that he is ready for the
college game, putting a handful of goals into the back of the net. The
veteran-filled Texas defense's takeaways proved valuable, and allowed the
offense to retain possession for the majority of the game. Multiple defensive
lineups were used due to depth at the position. All three
goalies tallied saves and got extensive playing time.
Every player saw the field in the scrimmage, and the team as a whole showed
great promise for the coming spring. With work still to be done, the team heads
in to two more weeks of practice before their next scrimmage at home against St.
Edward's. Come out and support your Longhorns. Hook 'Em!
